ROUNDS 15 & 16 OULTON PARK

The second to last rounds saw a packed 30 car grid at Oulton Park. The first corner saw Garrie Whittaker & Piers Ross out of the race with David Kempton’s car smoking from an oil leak which ended his race 4 laps in. The race win went to Steven Kane, with a brilliant drive from Tom Knight seeing off Ian Hill who came 3rd. Class B went to Mark Capewell who passed Des Thresh as he fell off at Knickerbrook but kept 2nd from James Card in 3rd. 318is saw two comers to the series, Jason Holyhead & Phil Archbold. The class was won by Tim Sweet with Jason coming a great 2nd & Sean Foley coming 3rd.

The 2nd race at Oulton Park saw the 3 class A contenders out, Garrie, Piers & David. This left Steven Kane to take his 2nd win of the day with Tom Knight 2nd & Ian Hill 3rd. There was a great battle for 4th place with Tom Houlbrook, James & Tom Webb. James had a great run at his brother Tom & got 4th with Tom Webb coming 5th & Tom Houlbrook coming 6th. Class B again had a battle with James Card, making a great move on Des Thresh into Cascades. Des fell by & Rodger Card finished 2nd with Evelyne Buanic coming 3rd. 318is saw Tim Sweet taking the honours with newcomer Jason Holyhead taking his 2nd second and other newcomer Phil Archbold passing Sean Foley who fell off at Knickerbrook, for 3rd place.

Last rounds at Thruxton in 2 weeks time. Lets hope Garrie & Piers can get their race cars ready for then……

ROUNDS 13 & 14 ROCKINGHAM

Rockingham saw a 26 car grid for the 13th round of the championship with battles throughout the field. Karl Cattliff, the current champion, started the race in 2nd position on the grid next to Garrie Whittaker so a E30 M3 front row. When the lights went out, Garrie & Piers Ross, made a great start after Karl bogged down leaving him 6th at the first corner. Piers chased Garrie but the M3 E30 started to pull away round the tight infield of Rockingham. James Card has a quite race but behind him saw Rodger Card & Des Thresh get very close to each other, resulting in Rodger coming 2nd & Des 3rd in Class. Tim Sweet won the 318is class with John Jones having his best result coming in 2nd.

Sunday’s race & round 14 of the championship saw a great start from Tom Knight holding off Garrie for 4 laps before a brilliant manoeuvre from Garrie saw him retake the lead as Tom’s tyres started to go off. Class B saw James Card picking up maximum points again & Tim Sweet coming through as 318is winner. Roll on Oulton Park…….

ROUNDS 11 & 12 BRANDS HATCH

Brands Hatch saw a packed 32 grid to start round 11 of the 2009 championship. David Kempton one of the club’s sponsors, FX Intro, took the 1st place after being chased throughout the 12 lap race by Garrie Whittaker & Piers Ross. Class B was won by Des Thresh with 2nd place going to Rodger Card. The 318is class was won by Tim Sweet. Close racing from start to finish……Great racing!

Round 12 saw again David Kempton taking the first place honours with a great drive to keep Piers Ross at by followed by Garrie Whittaker. Class B saw 2 of the front runners, Evelyne Buanic & Mark Capewell pulling off after being caught up with the start line crash involving Ian Munns & Neil Gummow and class B went to Des Thresh. The 318is was won by Tim Sweet getting another lap record

DEAR DRIVERS

I would like to thank you all for the wonderful presentation awarded to me at the weekend. The weekend at Brands for me was a dream come true. The safety car driver who doesn’t know how to use the paddle gear shift YET, the beautiful trophy you presented to me will take pride of place on my mantel piece and most of all the one of the best BMWRDC weekend racing I have seen in many years. I would like to thank all the people who worked behind the scenes to make this championship one of the best in the country.

Once again deepest thanks to all & see you at Rockingham.

Trevor

THANK YOU

BMW FESTIVAL

The BMW Racing Drivers Club will be attending the BMW Festival on the 16th August 2009 At the National Motor Heritage Centre, Gaydon, Warwicks Stand 13 & 14 See you there!!

ROUNDS 9 & 10 DONINGTON

Donington Park saw a grid of 33 drivers start round 9 of the championship but the race was stopped after an accident on the 1st lap saw Ian Crisp collide with Dan Stringfellow. With Dan facing the wrong way onto on coming traffic and a broken wheel, Stephan Lanfermeijer  could avoid the E46 in the middle of the track. The race was started again but then stopped with another accident at Red Gate. This took out Garrie Whittaker in his E30 M3.

The second re-start saw a Richard Mallinson win round 9 with a 3 second gap with Ian Crisp finishing 2nd and Steve Pearson 3rd. In Class B Rodger Card won the class & Tim Sweet winning 318is.

Round 10 saw a exciting close race between Richard Mallinson & Ian Crisp and the whole field. They swopped position throughout the race with the last lap & last corner seeing Ian slip on some oil which Tom Houlbrook’s car a dropped. The race was won by Richard with a hundredth of a second between them crossing the finishing line. The crowd love it!
Class B was won by James Card who got passed his dad Rodger after Rodger missed a gear due to gearbox problems. The 318is was won by birthday boy Tim Sweet.

Next round Brands with a possible full grid of 32 cars

ROUNDS 7 & 8 AT CROFT

Last weekend saw the championship move to Croft. Saturday's race was in the dry & sunny with Garrie Whittaker taking the glory after 2nd place man Dave Kempton had a spin which caused the field to slow down leaving Garrie to race off into the distance. Class B was one by Des Thresh after Richard Marsh's engine blew. Class D 318is was won by Tim Sweet.

Sunday's race saw lots of rain but was red flagged after the 4th lap as Dave Kempton's car decided to drop all it's oil around the whole of the circuit. After a 10 min stop for the road sweeper to clear some of the oil, the rain stopped but the track was like an ice rink. The race was won by Dan Stringfellow who was in the invitation class as he was borrowing his friends car, Ant Howarth due to the accident Ant had on the Friday before. Ian Hill finished first from all the championship cars with Garrie Whittaker finishing 2nd. Mark Capewell won Class B & Sean Foley won class D 318is.

ROUNDS 5 & 6 AT PEMBREY

Another hot & sunny race weekend saw rounds 5 & 6 at Pembrey, South Wales. Round 5 & 6 saw Garrie Whittaker take first place in both rounds & James Card winning class B in both rounds, but was pushed all the way. Newcomer to the championship, Tim Sweet, took both wins in Class D 318is.

LOOK WHO'S HERE!

BTCC driver Martyn Bell, went back to his roots on Sunday to watch the Kumho BMWRDC championship double header at Snetterton. Martyn, a previous competitor in the Kumho BMWRDC, won the Championship in 2004!!

Good Luck to Martyn & his Team, Team Sunshine at this weekends BTCC race at Donington Park

DOUBLE HEADER AT SNETTERTON - 10th MAY

A hot, sunny Snetterton saw a brilliant drive from Garrie Whittaker to take 1st place in the 3rd round of the Kumho BMWRDC championship, after spinning on the 2nd lap. Mark Astall won Class B, just finishing in front of Richard Marsh after both drivers swapped positions several times!! Stephan Lanfermeijer won 318is Class D and was pushed hard by a newcomer to the championship, Tim Sweet. Battles throughout the field, great racing by all drivers!!

4th round of the Kumho BMWRDC championship saw 3 starts after a few incidents, but when racing started it was Richard Mallinson who won after a great battle with Tom Houlbrook for 1st & 2nd. Mark Astall won Class B, but again battling hard with James Card. Stephan Lanfermeijer won 318is Class D after his opponent Tim Sweet had to retire due to his engine mount breaking.
